Event «Daten, Datenbanken und Datenmodelle in den Geschichtswissenschaften – Digital History in der Schweiz»
Linked to
Creating, editing and using databases has become part of everyday business in the historical sciences. International and national organisations and institutes make central information available in the form of databases, both online and, increasingly, offline.
Databases contain sources or research information, structure research results or are sources themselves. Moreover, data models allow historical objects to be constructed in new ways. However, the question of how a database works and how it fits into a scholarly workflow is rarely asked.
Organized by the Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Geschichte (SGG) this event aims to fill this gap by providing an overview of existing databases, addressing questions of design, discussing which technologies will be particularly powerful and advanced in the future, and how to make the application fit. In the panel, Lara Kothe and other design researchers will discuss historical research on the web from a designer’s perspective.
