Autonomous Kitchen Council Fanzine (2026)

For this summer chilli-aji harvest, we’ll sit at the kitchen table with our dear comrade and community organiser Abundia Alvarado, a Nahuatl-Apache 2S Trans femme migrant from the Mexican desert lands and a leading member of the Autonomous Kitchen Council (AKC).

Together with Abundia and the Nurturing Food Inter-structures research webs, we wish to intentionally and collectively envision what anti-oppressive, interdependent and sovereign food pathways could feel like. We’ll gather to learn with the organising rehearsals of the AKC worldwide web¹.

We will facilitate a dialogue about the recent self-published AKC fanzine, then screen a film on food and grassroots resistance from Turtle Island. Then, we’ll set the table to continue this discussion with some seasonal salsas picantes (uchucutas, spicy sauces), tubers and corns to dip in the salsas.

Who are the Autonomous Kitchen Councils (AKC)?

The Autonomous Kitchen Councils (AKC) is a decolonial organizing framework 4 years in the making. Crafted by a very diverse group of people from all over the word. Our main goals are: a) To connect communities across territories, b) To help people to consider becoming a “Kitchen Councilist” themselves, c) To Web Care & Mutual Aid spaces across territories in order to move power away from the colonial capitalist system and towards autonomous power: locally, regionally, and inter-regionally in concrete ways via resources sharing and collective systemic care building, d) To make our organizing framework accessible to any community, – especially historically disenfranchised groups – to empower them to organize autonomously for their care and for larger local or regional revolutionary projects and actions.

Abundia Alvarado (she/her) is a Nahuatl-Apache 2S Trans femme migrant from the Mexican desert lands. She is a community organizer advocating for food autonomy, indigenous sovereignty & communities autonomy. She is currently working on promoting the Autonomous Kitchen Council (AKC), a decolonial praxis oriented framework for enhancing / creating / expanding systemic care, harnessing direct community power and revolution. She is particularly interested in the potential of Abundance as an emergent revolutionary idea & praxis to build connection, inform communities and to generate ongoing collective processes around organizing, care, resources and spaces worldwide.
