What infrastructures shape artistic research—and how can we reshape them in return? The symposium HOLDING SPACES, MAKING CONDITIONS explores how transversal practices inhabit and reimagine the frameworks that support them.

Organized with the Society for Artistic Research (gkfd), the Laboratory of Art and Research (University of Cologne), and Temporary Gallery, it brings together artists, theorists, and curators to imagine transversal formats for collective practice.

As part of Lucie Kolb’s Publishing module in the MA Transversal Design, the symposium becomes a site of publishing as public-making. The module takes an intersectional approach — questioning who gets to publish, how, and under what conditions — while critically engaging with technological, legal, and economic infrastructures. Interweaving pedagogy, public programming, and curating, the symposium features lectures, workshops, readings, a student exhibition and Chatty Chatty, a talk format led by MA Transversal Design students.
