Susanna Hertrich

Researcher

Susanna Hertrich works at the intersection of conceptual design and contemporary art. She studied at the Peter Behrens School of Art in Düsseldorf and Tokyo University of the Arts. She received an MA degree from the Royal College of Art in London (2008). Her artistic research investigates extensions of the human senses and the role of the physical body in relation to technology-driven environments.

Susanna was researcher at the lab in the project The Sensorium of Animals from 2015–2018. Since 2020 she is lecturer at the Institute Integrative Design | Masterstudio Design, also at the FHNW Academy of Art and Design.

Susanna was head of the MA Masterstudio Experimental Design from 2021–2023.

The research project Sensorium of Animals by Susanna Hertrich & Shintaro Miyazaki is nominated for this year’s Swiss Design Awards in the category Design Research. The project will be exhibited alongside all finalists during the Art Basel week from 13–18 June 2023.
