Jisoo Lim

Student Liaison

Jisoo Lim is a game designer and researcher based in Basel and Seoul.

Her work explores the intersection of queer identity, religion, and playful digital media through researching the individual and collective experiences of LGBTQ+ Christians in South Korea. She is particularly interested in the ways that digital storytelling, prototyping, and design research in computer games can contribute to societal change, and how digital spaces can give voice to invisible and marginalised groups and form the basis for countering collective hatred.

Her games have been showcased at many international events such as the A Maze Festival (DE), IDFA DocLab (NL), Ars Electronica (AT), and Now Play This (UK).

Jisoo is the current student liaison at the lab.

HackThePromise Festival

Basel’s festival for digital culture, art and society is back for its third edition. Co-organised by MA Transversal Design team member Ozan Güngör, HackThePromise will take place from 3–5 October at the Paddlehalle Basel.

Under the theme Hacking Systems, Hacking Futures, the festival explores hacking as a socio-technical practice — breaking open, rewiring systems, and rehearsing alternative futures. The program spans talks, workshops, an exhibition, performances, DJ sets, film screenings and a hacking market.

● The first session of the Hacking Module of the MA Transversal Design will take place during the festival on Saturday afternoon.

● On Saturday evening, Helen Pritchard, Kit Braybrooke, and Qingyi Ren & moderated by Jisoo Lim will be in conversation on hacking as a practice of disruption, re-imagination, and collective possibility.
