Claudia Mareis is a designer and design researcher. She holds a professorship in Design and History of Knowledge at the Department of Cultural History and Theory at Humboldt University of Berlin and is a part-time researcher at the Institute of Experimental Design and Media Cultures at the FHNW Academy of Art and Design in Basel. Since 2019 she is one of the deputies of the interdisciplinary Cluster of Excellence Matters of Activity. Image Space Material at Humboldt University of Berlin. Her research interests comprise design history and methodology in the 20th century, knowledge cultures in design, experimental design and media practices, cultural history of creativity, design and material politics.
Claudia Mareis was founding director of the Critical Media Lab from 2013–2021.
